On the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar or western calendar is at around the beginning of November. Many Thai believe that floating “krathong” a raft, decorated with banana leaves, flowers, candles and incense sticks and any object that Thai people believe floating “Krathong” will create good luck to themselves and family and also to honor and thank the Goddess of Water who gives us water to stay alive. Thai people enjoy festivals and celebration, it means “time to take a break.” Friend and relative gather together and go out at the night to Loy(float) Krathong.
Believe it or not,
lovers use this activity to make a commitment to each others and the water or the Goddess of the Water becomes the witness for their loves. They will do it together and keep looking at their krathongs which suppose to go along side by side together at all time, ideally. This is a great opportunity for a man who fall in love with a girl and try to make the relationship more promising.
So if you do fall for a Thai girl, don’t forget to ask her to Loy Krathong and if she doesn’t deny, it means the key to unlock her heart is revealed.
